An individual who contaminated treats with sleeping medication and distributed them to children at a youth camp in Leicestershire has confessed to sexual offenses against two young males both nine and 10.

Jon Ruben was detained after eight minors and a grown-up fell ill at the facility in the summer month.

The elderly man, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a series of 17 offences when he was present at the judicial center on recently.

However, he denied one particular crime he was facing, which was against a young boy.

Ruben was held in detention ahead of a additional proceeding on November 28th.

'Candy game'

Mary Prior KC, handling the case, detailed Ruben's offending to the judicial body.

She stated his victims were under-privileged children who were participating in a youth camp which he operated.

The defendant conducted a "treat game" with the children, Mrs Prior stated, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were preparing to sleep and request they to ingest treats "rapidly".

She told the court the defendant had engaged in this activity with the boys "repeatedly", and minors had previously fallen ill the following morning.

She explained the defendant had been able to explain this for many years as the minors being "overstimulated by activities", until his family member had worries in recently.

The prosecutor added: "Recently" his family member had suspicions about what was going on, justifiably.

"They decided to have a look in the defendant's belongings."

The legal counsel explained materials including lubricant, petroleum jelly and syringes were located, and his stepson alerted the police about his suspicions.

She stated the defendant went on to engage in the "candy game" with six children that night - Saturday 26 July - and they were all ill the subsequent day.

"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that stage," she stated further.

The oversight body, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, previously told that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.

Mrs Prior explained the minors were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so Ruben's stepson called the authorities again.

She said the defendant then engaged in the "sweet game" in a space of five minors.
